10 Ways to Get Yourself Out of a Funk Now

Sharing is caring!

Have you ever wondered how to get out of a funk? Or why you are feeling like you are in a funk? One day last week I woke up in a bad mood, not sure why, but it happens, I’m sure you know what I mean. Maybe it is the current state of the world, maybe stress at work, could be a combination of many little things. Unfortunately, it didn’t just last one day, it lasted a few days.

This got me thinking, what are some things I can do to get myself out of this funk? Since this funk was a state of mind, I decided to change the course of my state of mind and do things that make me happy.

Here are a few ways I was able to get out of my funk, hopefully some of these ideas will help you too.

1. Get Moving:

Sometimes when we don’t feel like doing anything, getting up and moving is the last thing we want to do. But, research shows that exercise releases endorphins, natural mood enhancers, so it is worth a shot.

2. Connect with Friends or Family:

When we are feeling down, it is easy to isolate ourselves, but spending time with loved ones can help us feel better. Laughing and talking about happy memories can boost our mood and make us feel more connected. If your friends or loved ones are not nearby, you can still watch a movie together using Teleparty, pick a comedy and let the laughs begin.

3. Do Something Nice for Someone Else:

When we are focused on others, it can take our mind off of our own problems and make us feel good. Whether it is cooking a meal for someone, volunteering, or just paying it forward in line at the coffee shop, making someone else’s day will also make yours.

4. Get Outside:

Being in nature has been shown to reduce stress and improve mood. So, take a walk in the park, sit by the water, or simply spend some time in your backyard.

5. Make Some Music:

Listening to music can change our mood and even affect our physiology. Put on your favorite tunes and let yourself get lost in the rhythm.

6. Get Creative:

Whether it is painting, drawing, scrap booking, or writing, expressing yourself creatively can help you tap into your emotions and release them in a healthy way.

7. Read a Good Book:

Getting lost in a story can take your mind off of your own life for a little while and transport you to another world. Reading can also help reduce stress and improve brain function.

8. Spend Time with Animals:

Studies have shown that animal companionship can reduce anxiety, loneliness, and depression. So, if you have a pet, spend some extra time cuddling or playing with them. If not, consider volunteering at a local animal shelter. I have a dog and cats, just watching them play puts an instant smile on my face.

9. Declutter Your Space:

A cluttered environment can make us feel overwhelmed and stressed. Taking some time to declutter and organize our space can help us feel more in control and less stressed. Personally, I enjoy organizing and getting rid of items I no longer use, it gives me a sense of accomplishment.

10. Take a Relaxing Bath:

Add some soothing aromatherapy or add a few drops of lavender oil to your bathtub to help you relax. Soaking in a warm bath can also help reduce muscle tension and pain. Light some candles and either play relaxing music or read a book.

These are just 10 ideas to help you get out of a funk, but I’m sure there are many more. Do you have any favorite ways to boost your mood? Share them in the comments below!
